Frequently asked questions

Accuracy and control

How accurate is TakeoffBOT?

TakeoffBOT is built to find AWI and AWMAC casework and millwork products and to link plans, elevations, sections, callouts and specs. Accuracy improves every month as the system learns from each project, and it is best on clean, vector PDF drawings. The goal is to take on about 80% of the mechanical work so your estimator spends their time on the part that needs judgment. Every item is reviewed before it is priced: estimator-approved scope by design.

What if TakeoffBOT misses something?

You catch it in review, the same way you would check a junior estimator’s takeoff. Add the item in a click. If it consistently misses a product your shop uses, tell us; we can add it to your library and train the system to recognise it.

How does TakeoffBOT change an estimator’s day-to-day work?

It takes over the repetitive prep: counting, sorting drawings, and building the first-pass takeoff. That frees your estimators to spend their time on scope decisions, risk assessment, and pricing strategy, the judgment calls a machine shouldn’t make alone. Final quantities and pricing calls stay with your team.

Drawings, products and exports

What file types are supported?

We process any PDF to find products in the elevations. You can upload any file type to store in the project.

Can we export?

Yes. You can export a detailed Excel breakdown of pricing calculations so that you have maximum control over your estimates. You can also export a PDF with your labeled products showing customized reports. Report templates let you configure how your project data is exported.

Is it built for AWI and AWMAC?

Yes. TakeoffBOT is trained to recognise casework and millwork products from the AWI and AWMAC standard product libraries, and you can add your own shop’s products.

Can I customize the product library?

Yes. You can clone & rename AWI defaults to match your shop standards, or add custom products on the fly. Talk to us about training on your custom products.

Does it integrate with my software?

TakeoffBOT exports to Excel, CSV and reports, and can produce files compatible with Cabinet Vision, Microvellum and Takeoff by People Logic Software. More integrations are on the way; tell us which software you use.

What is a ROM budget, and how does TakeoffBOT produce one?

A ROM (rough order of magnitude) budget is an early price range used to decide whether a job is worth bidding. TakeoffBOT produces a Level 1 ROM from the first-pass takeoff and your rates, so you can make a go/no-go call before committing to a full takeoff.

Project types

Does TakeoffBOT work for multifamily projects?

Yes. It is well suited to multifamily millwork: counts are organised by unit type, building and floor, so you review each unit type once and the approved scope carries across every repeat. See multifamily millwork takeoff.

Does it work for UK, Australian and metric projects?

Yes. TakeoffBOT supports metric units and UK and Australian terminology such as joinery, fitout and shopfitting.

Your team and your data

Who in my shop would use this?

Owners use it for quick ROM budgets and go/no-go calls. Junior estimators run quantity takeoffs faster. Senior estimators spend less time counting and more on detailed pricing and risk review. You can share takeoffs across your team so estimators and reviewers work from the same project.

Is our data safe?

Yes. Your drawings and takeoffs are private to your account and encrypted. We never share or sell your files.

Getting started

How do I get started?

Book a demo. We’ll learn how your shop estimates today, walk you through TakeoffBOT on a real Division 06 set, and answer your questions.

How much does it cost?

USD 600 per seat per month, or USD 6,000 per seat per year (two months free). Each seat is one named user. No setup fees.

Who builds TakeoffBOT?

TakeoffBOT was started in Victoria, BC, by Tom Morin, a commercial millwork estimator with more than 30 years in the trade, who went looking for takeoff software built for Division 06 and could not find any. TakeoffBOT is a proud AWI Gold Partner.
